Summer institute for Catholic teachers 0

Fertile Soil - Preparing Teachers for the New Evangelization: From Aug. 9-12, 2012, Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy in Barry's Bay, Ontario, will be hosting its second annual Wojtyla Summer Institute.

Heading into the Year of Faith proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI, the focus of this year's institute will be to consider how his call for the new evangelization can be realized in Catholic schools. From school boards and communities across Ontario, Catholic teachers will gather for seminars, fellowship and relaxation at OLSWA in Ontario's beautiful cottage country.

The purpose of the Wojtyla Summer Institute is to advance OLSWA's mission of serving the Church by offering programs focusing on aspects of the Faith and Catholic teaching which will be available to groups or individuals interested in further developing their understanding of Catholicism.

In a recent address to bishops, Pope Benedict XVI called Catholic schools "an essential resource for the new evangelization." To help in this important mission, this year's institute is aimed at preparing Catholic teachers for a concrete implementation of Pope Benedict's goals for the Year of Faith.

In his apostolic letter proclaiming the Year of Faith, the Pope said, "In this Year. the Catechism of the Catholic Church will serve as a tool providing real support for the faith, especially for those concerned with the formation of Christians, so crucial in our cultural context."

The Institute seminars will focus on key topics from the Catechism, as well as formation for teachers and the integration of Faith into the curriculum. The sessions will be taught by professors from Our Lady Seat of Wisdom, as well as featuring speakers such as artist and author Michael D. O'Brien, and Fr. Joseph Hattie, OMI.

Teachers are invited to register as individuals, groups or to bring the whole family. OLSWA's beautiful campus overlooks Lake Kamaniskeg, and during the weekend there will also be ample opportunity to enjoy social activities and fun with the family while delighting in the scenery of the Madawaska Valley. Registration information can be found at the Our Lady Seat of Wisdom website, www.seatofwisdom.org, or by calling 613-756-3082.

Founded in 2000, OLSWA is a Catholic post-secondary liberal arts institution offering one-, two-, and three-year certificates in Christian humanities. Credits from courses at OLSWA have been accepted at a number of universities, including Redeemer University College, Tyndale University College and Franciscan University of Steubenville. The Academy is actively pursuing degree-granting status in the province of Ontario.
